School's Out, School's Out...

Posted Dec 21, 2007. Filed under Me, Site, School. 4 comments.

Today is my first day of being on Christmas break, and it feels good. I haven't gotten a lot of sleep yet (my friends all had a sleepover last night, which was a little crazy, but not too bad), but it's nice being able to do things that aren't related to the book we're reading in English or what we're covering in math. I finally feel like I can breathe, which is good, because all human beings need oxygen to survive. I think. Oh no, science knowledge, where have you gone? Kidding... back on track...

Anyway, with this two week break of freedom, I am going to finish this site. Clem is helping me with Wordpress (that sounds so official), and I am finally able to put content up! Just a warning of what's ahead, it's going to rock...

So, yeah! I'm going to see a parade tonight with my family, and the Macy's eighth floor, if anyone knows what that is. It's the display walk-through exhibit they have at Macy's, and I don't remember if it's just in Minnesota or not. Whatever. It pops up around Christmas, and the theme is different every year. I'm excited!

Merry almost Christmas!

Songs and How I Can't Write Them

Posted Dec 16, 2007. Filed under Me, Question, I Wish, I Want. 8 comments.

So, I have this problem. I love music, and I love writing. And I want to be able to morph those two things together... you know, be the next amazing teen alternative rock band singer. Just kidding. But, it'd be nice to be able to write music, because when I write poetry, sometimes the words just beg me to be lyrics.

My problem? I've had three years of piano, five years ago. I quit playing flute, and the only musical thing I have going for me now, besides my iPod, is my choir. (I'm a fabulous alto, if you were wondering. My choir grade was accompanied by a comment saying that I was part of the "strongest alto section" my teacher has ever taught. Just to brag a bit... *joke*) So- I CAN'T WRITE MUSIC. I can find a melody on the piano right around middle C, but the harmony part? Not at all. Right now I'm thinking of partnering with one of my musically talented friends, but I haven't talked to her about it yet...

So, do any of you write music? Want to write music? Feel free to share your stories...

FW:

Okay, how many of you have seen that before the subject line of an e-mail and just cringed? Forwards. They are so copious in teen culture, it seems impossible to stop them. They're like chicken pox, spreading rapidly and leaving your in-box scarred with mostly unwanted e-mails. So, here's a list for you on my thoughts on forwards.

Why Forwards Are The Worst Possible Type of Mail to Receive:

1. They are completely unoriginal. They are called "forwards" because all you have to do when you get one is hit "forward" and type in some addresses of people to receive the plague next. Sure there are the kinds where you answer questions about yourself, but still, how many people actually read those things?

2. They are completely false. Have you ever read the one about the baby needing heart surgery/cats being grown inside bottles/trying to receive some of Bill Gate's fortune? And then when you finish it, you realize that Oh no, you need to send it to eighty billion people, otherwise you'll die at midnight. So far, I haven't died. The other possible ending is that if you send it to eighty billion people you will get kissed by your crush tomorrow. This has never happened to me, either. I've started to not believe forwards, believe it or not.

3. They give you a completely false sense of excitement. I opened up my e-mail and saw ten new messages, which is almost a record for me. They were from my friends, and just as I was feeling loved and correspondence-worthy... I glanced at the subject line. FORWARD. My heart was crushed. (But, you know, it's recovering.)

There are many other reasons why forwarded messages are obnoxious. Lots of people I know hate them just like I do, but send them anyway. This I don't get. What goes around comes around- if you send forwards, you're bound to get them.

Let's stop the plague.

Snowy

Posted Dec 5, 2007. Filed under Me, Thinking Deep, Question. 3 comments.

I like the word snow. It sounds pretty... soft on your tongue, like chocolate or something. What if I adopted it for my last name? Mary Mae Snow. That's pretty.

Anyway, what sparked the thought of snow was, surprise surprise, a snowfall right here in the good ol' Minneapolis metro. Snow is an expected thing here, since we're, you know, MINNESOTA, the land of icebergs and frozen lakes, but still. The first of anything is exciting.

So what did I do with the snow? Well, you're probably expecting "I built a snowman!" or "I pelted my brother with snowballs... snow GRENADES!" But... I didn't. I stayed inside, watching the show with my coffee in hand, writing poetry. (Don't I sound artistic?)

So, yeah. Maybe I'll post some of my snowetry when I get the other functions of my site working, which will be soon, along with a new layout... *cough cough* I love the toe socks, but this next one is just plain SWEET...

~Mary

PS- What do you do in the snow?
